Within this curatorial project, Maria Proshkovska invites Ukrainian women artists who left Ukraine after the beginning of the full-scale invasion and have since returned to rethink this shared experience and work together on a joint project. “Practices of Presence” unfolds in three parts: I. Conflict. II. Displacement. III. Environment.

Art Across Closed Borders: Moving Artists and the Work of Cultural Solidarity

Moving Artists was built to open routes where routes are closed — creating cultural exchange between countries separated by conflict, censorship, and instability. Based in Bilbao's Basque Country, they bring to ASSEMBLE something most European organisations cannot: years of direct experience working with artists from conflict zones, not as beneficiaries, but as creative equals.
